Believe it or not, it is time to talk about 2022 home design trends. Sounds so far away but it is right around the corner. Will the pandemic still have an effect on trends? Let’s take a look at what is to come.
Seven 2022 Home Design Trends
1. BASIC INTERIOR COLORS
If you started working from home during the pandemic you very quickly realized that calm and serene were key to a 24/7 family filled home! Basic and neutral colors relaxed us all. What are neutral colors? These include black, white and shades of gray, as well as muted tones. Beige is the most relevant color as a base, both in cold and warm shades. Paint brand Dulux has named Brave Ground the Color of the Year 2022. There are also micro-trends. Classic blue was a trend in 2021 and will probably continue into 2022 as well. The whole palette of blue, not just the classic shade of blue, will be used.
2. ROUNDED SHAPES
As rigid as our lives can be, it is nice to relax in the softness and comfort of furniture without corners. Almost all designer furniture loses its right angles and become soft and rounded.
3. MINIMALISM
Minimalist is recognized as the fashionable interior of 2022. During the pandemic, many tried to get rid of old non-functional things. Form is a key element in minimalism. This is a modern approach. To make sure the space does not look unfinished, make sure furniture has an interesting shape.
4. INSPIRATION FROM NATURE
The most popular textures are stone, onyx, marble, granite and wood. They are used in decoration and furniture. It can be wood paneling on the wall or floor, in light colors. Linen and cotton as well as ceramics, as in unpolished vases, continue with the naturalistic theme.
5. COMBINED SPACES WITH PRIVACY
There was a time when separate rooms were the norm, but not now. Designers are trying to combine rooms. With this said, because more people are working from home, a more thought out area is necessary… more functionality. Don’t forget the need for privacy too!
6. EQUIPPED WORKPLACE
Most employees are still working from home and that does not look like it is changing for the upcoming future. Working at the kitchen table or on the couch is quite inconvenient. Equip yourself for a more comfortable home and office! If renovation is not on your agenda, try rearranging furniture. Lots of natural light too!
7. HOME GARDENING
This is actually a global trend as well as a micro-trend. During quarantine people really examined their closeness with nature. People became much more comfortable with a space that had indoor plants. Since we all had to be inside so much we started bringing the outdoors in. That’s not to say we need to make it look like a greenhouse inside, but a happy medium. Start small with a few potted plants and “grow” from there!
Trends will always be changing but don’t feel like you have to change with them. You can make a few adjustments here and there to keep up to date.
