Part of the pleasure in building a home is being able to chose those new home must haves that you might sacrifice when buying a previously built home. There’s a different level of planning involved in building a home verses buying a home. With planning comes freedom.

Looking around the internet we found this post of 36 Things You Obviously Need in Your New Home. Here are our 10 favorites (click on each image to view larger version):

New Home Must Haves Ideas

1. A Nice Relaxing Swing During Dinner

Everyone can get into the act with their own swing. Dinners will never be the same and this one easily transitions from being single to having kids.

2. Ultimate Loft Hammock

This one takes relaxation a step further than the dinner swing set. Once you get over the anxiousness of “will it hold me” you’re ready for a cozy nap, a good book, or a little conversation.

3. Hidden Room Behind Staircase

Need a quiet get-a-way or looking to maximize available space. This hidden room can easily serve as a reading room or library, an office, a storage space or anything you can imagine.

4. Staircase Library With a Slide

Combine the fun of reading with the enjoyment of a slide. This is a great idea to create a memorable library and a visual focus point for an entry way.

5. Staircase Aquarium Wrap Around

If you love fish and are looking to add an aquarium to your home this super sized option is sure to impress. Just be sure to focus more on your step than the fish when coming down the stairs.

6. Fire Pit In Pool

Fire pits have become extremely popular in the last couple of years. Add a pool into the mix and you’ll never want to get out.

7. Inside Outside Hot Tub

Hot tubs are a great addition to any home. This one takes it a step further by incorporating giving you the option to soak indoors or outdoors, and and back and forth without having to leave your hot tub.

8. His and Hers Tub

Jacuzzi tubs are one of our top bathroom remodeling requests. This tub ensures each person has their own space to relax. A great way to spend some quality time with your spouse.

9. From Door to Ping Pong

While maybe not the same experience as playing on an official Ping Pong table it does save space. Now if only they can figure out how to get an air hockey table on a door.

10. Refrigerator Pantry Wrap Around

This idea is cool and practical. Integrate your refrigerator into your kitchens cabinetry and have all your food supplies within an arms reach.

These are only our favorite ten out of 36 new home must haves in the original article.

While many of these ideas may not be feasible for your home they do provide inspiration for stepping outside of the box the next time you’re building a new home or doing a home renovation. Which is your favorite?
